Chequebook missing. How to safeguard against unauthorized withdrawals?

Dears,

Greetings!

I kept my chequebook in my shop drawer for a couple of months, and recently I found it missing. I had signed some of its copies for use during my absence, if necessary.

Could you please advise the best way to protect myself and prevent unauthorized bank withdrawals?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Dear Questioner,

According to UAE law, it is the responsibility of the account holder to keep their chequebook safe and secure.

If the chequebook is lost or stolen, the account holder should immediately inform the bank and request a stop payment on the cheques.

This can be done by visiting the bank or through online banking. The account holder should also file a police report and provide a copy to the bank as proof of the lost or stolen chequebook.

In case any of the signed cheques are used fraudulently, the account holder should inform the bank and provide them with a copy of the police report.

The bank will then investigate the matter and may require the account holder to provide additional information or documents to support their claim.

It is important to note that the account holder may be held liable for any fraudulent use of the cheques if they have not taken the necessary precautions to keep the chequebook safe.

Therefore, it is advisable to keep the chequebook in a secure place and not to sign any blank cheques.

In order to protect yourself and your bank account, it is recommended to regularly check your bank statements and report any unauthorized transactions to the bank immediately.

It is also advisable to keep a record of the cheques issued and their respective amounts to avoid any discrepancies.

Dear Questioner,

Immediate Action:

- Contact Your Bank:

This is the most critical step. Call your bank's customer service number immediately.

- Report Missing Checkbook:

Clearly inform the bank representative that your checkbook containing signed checks is missing.

- Request Stop Payment:

Ask the bank to put a stop payment order on all the checks from your missing checkbook. This prevents anyone from cashing them, even if found.
