Laborer's heart attack, expired insurance - how to handle hospital bills?

Dear Sir/Madam,

Kindly advise; your response is appreciated.

I'm an HR in a contracting firm with about 300 employees, including 200+ laborers under the company visa.

We are in the process of policy renewal. One of our laborers suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital, but his insurance has expired.

The bills amount to 35k, and the hospital is requesting payment. Our boss and company are not ready to pay. The laborer's minimum salary of 1700.

The hospital management mentioned the possibility of legal action if payment is not made.

Please advise on alternative options.

Dear Questioner,

If the company has signed papers when he was hospitalized, the company is obliged to pay the bills, and the hospital has the right to file a case.

Dear Questioner,

Here both parties have some responsibility. Since the insurance has expired, the insurance company is not fully responsible for this claim.

The company has some of the obligations as he was an employee and it was the obligation of the company to make the renewal process on time.

If the hospital files a case, you have to submit a defense so that your liability can be reduced. This will be the option available for you.

If you need further clarification, we will arrange a legal consultation session.

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.

In this situation, review employment contracts and policies, negotiate with the hospital for a settlement or payment plan, consult with insurance providers, and consult with us.

Under UAE labor law, employers generally have responsibilities regarding medical coverage, but specifics may vary.

Consider the employee's welfare, document all actions, and explore mediation before legal action.

For any further legal assistance, you can WhatsApp us. We have an extensive team of knowledgeable and experienced lawyers to provide the legal assistance you need.

We will be happy to help you.

Thanks & Regards,

Hello,

As per your query, please note that the hospital can not make the case against you, they have to make the case against the company.

Please contact us via email or call for more clarification.

Dear Inquirer,

We are pleased to serve you and address your inquiries.

The employer must provide health insurance to employees, covering the associated costs and ensuring it remains valid during their employment.

In emergencies, the employer covers healthcare expenses for uninsured employees. Employees receive health insurance cards, and the insurance document is presented during residency issuance or renewal.

If anything else is required, don’t hesitate to contact us via email, or call our offices in Dubai or Sharjah.
