Can a tourist visa holder get health insurance after surgery?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to inquire about health insurance for a tourist visa. My boyfriend’s grandmother visited the UAE on December 24, 2023, from Italy.

She is a Filipina and an Italian citizen. In an unexpected scenario, she was rushed to the hospital on December 28th, had surgery due to a hemorrhage, is in a comatose stage, and is still in the ICU to this date.

As per the doctor’s advice, she will be staying in the country for at least a month. Is there any chance that she can apply for insurance here to lessen the bills even though she is not working here?

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.

Obtaining insurance for your boyfriend's grandmother, who is already in the UAE with a pre-existing medical condition, may be challenging.

Contact UAE insurance providers for options. Also, discuss payment arrangements with the hospital for her current medical bills.

For any further legal assistance, you can WhatsApp us. We have an extensive team of knowledgeable and experienced lawyers to provide the legal assistance you need.

We will be happy to help you.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Questioner,

Applying for new health insurance after a medical emergency is generally not possible with most insurance providers in the UAE.

These plans typically require the insured to be in good health at the time of application and free from pre-existing conditions.

If your boyfriend's grandmother purchased emergency medical travel insurance before her trip, it might cover some of the medical expenses.

Review the policy details and contact the insurance provider immediately to understand the coverage and claims process.

Dear Questioner,

In normal conditions, the visit visa doesn't include health insurance. But in certain circumstances, this can be considered.

You may check with the ICP website or GDRFA in order to get more clarity regarding the status of your visit visa.
