Job offer requires upfront payment for visa. Is this normal?

Hi,

I have received a job offer in Dubai as a Senior Data Analyst for a company based out of India and they interviewed me for the Dubai location.

I'm totally confused as the company asked me to pay for the visa and the work permit in the UAE. I have also paid around 56K and they are asking me to pay more 50K so that they can immediately start the visa process etc.

The sum would be repaid at the beginning of the work in Dubai.

This is strange because I have never advanced money for a work permit when I worked in Malaysia or Singapore.

Please do assist.

Thanks!

Dear Questioner,

Keep the records of the payment as if they don't hire you, you can sue them.

Before paying the amount, be sure that you are going to get the job.

Work and job situations in the UAE are quite risky these days.

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.

Be cautious about the job offer from that company in Dubai. It's unusual for a legitimate employer to ask you to pay for your own visa and work permit expenses in the UAE.

Verify the offer's authenticity by contacting the company directly. Avoid making further payments until you're sure about the legitimacy of the offer.

Scams related to job offers and visas are not uncommon, so exercise caution and protect yourself before proceeding.

According to the UAE labor law, the costs of the employee's visa and work permit are paid by the employer.

Dear Questioner,

The employer could not demand the cost of recruitment from the employee according to UAE Labor law. If they ask so, you don't have to pay.

From the above explanation, this shouldn't be accepted by employees.

If you need better clarity regarding the legal point, we will arrange a legal consultation session.

Dear user,

Please note that as per UAE labor law, it is illegal to ask the employee for visa and recruitment costs; the employer is responsible for paying them.

Do not make any payments until you make sure that the company and job offer are legit and not a scam.

An employer in Dubai should not ask an employee to pay any recruitment costs.

This is explicitly prohibited by the UAE Labor Law. It seems your money was taken by fraud.
