I took a loan from a friend and paid him in cash. He filed a police complaint for the money. What to do?

I took a friendly loan amounting to 3000 from my friend 3 years back, which I paid back a few days ago in cash as he was a friend.

Now, he is in desperate need of money and wants me to sell data to which I said no and I started avoiding taking his calls or answering him on WhatsApp.

He kept on asking for the payment which I already paid only a few days back. Now he has filed a police complaint stating mental harassment due to non-payment of the friendly loan.

He is using the WhatsApp messages that were sent before I paid the money.

What can I do now? And do I need to worry?

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question, I hope you are doing well. I will definitely assist you in this matter.

If you have already paid the loan amount to your friend and you have proof of this payment, such as bank statements or receipts, you should not be too concerned.

You can provide this evidence to the police if necessary to show that the loan has been settled.

For any further legal assistance, you can WhatsApp us. We have an extensive team of knowledgeable and experienced lawyers to provide the legal assistance you need.

We will definitely be happy to help you.

Thanks & Regards

I don't have a proof. Neither does he have any legal or written documents.

Does it fall under the police jurisdiction or only civil court?

What can the police do in this case?

ear User,

If you have any proof that you did pay the money back, then you don't need to worry.

No, I don't have any proof neither he has any legal document.

I paid him in cash and didn't bother to send a message as he was a friend.

Now as I do not want to help him in data selling he is using WhatsApp messages as evidence of non-payment.

What can the police do in this case?

Loans between people are not within the jurisdiction of the police.

This is the work of the civil court. So no need to worry.

Dear Questioner!

You are required to gather evidence that you have paid the amount back to your friend.

Also, file a counter-complaint regarding his harassment and threats inducing you to sell your personal data.

If you have made the payment and you have the proof that he received the same then no need to worry.

If he accepts that he received the payment in any mode of communication through WhatsApp, then it will be good to defend him.
