Can a plaintiff request interest for the period of the court case?
Dear Sir/Madam,
Can a plaintiff request interest for the period of the court case to be paid on top of the claim amount by the defendant?
For example, if the claim amount is AED 100,000 and the court case lasts six months, may the losing party be ordered to pay interest for six months on AED 100,000 in addition to the claim amount?
Dear Client,
Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will definitely assist you in this matter.
Yes, plaintiffs in the UAE can request legal interest on the claimed amount for the period of the court case.
The court may grant this request based on the case's circumstances and the judge's discretion.
The specific rate and period of interest are determined by the court.

Kindly note that you can demand 5% interest as a maximum, and mostly it will be calculated from the date of filing the claim at the court until the full payment.
