The credit card people are contacting me after 3 years of non-payment. What can I do?
Hi,
The credit card people are contacting me after 3 years.
They said it's a call from a lawyer's office and the guy writes provocative messages on Whatsapp to show that I am not willing to cooperate.
How long is the security cheque valid for?
Can they contact my employer?
The thing is I was paying until I found out that it was not added to the amount but considered as fines and fees!
Then I lost my job, left the country for 2 yrs, and came back. The amount they claim is 9k.
Thank you.
Under UAE law, a security cheque is valid for three years from the date of issue.
After this period, the cheque is no longer valid and cannot be cashed. The creditor may contact your employer to collect the debt.
However, they must first obtain an order from the court in the UAE.
If you have any further questions or concerns, it is best to consult a lawyer in the UAE who is familiar with the laws and regulations in the country.
They can sue you if there is unsettled credit card.
Better contact them and negotiate about the payment, otherwise, this can be a legal issue in future.
If you want further clarification we will arrange a legal consultation session for a charge of 28$.

In the UAE, the validity of a security cheque depends on your credit card agreement's terms. Credit card companies can contact you for debt collection, but direct contact with your employer is uncommon.
