Re-visiting the UAE after resigning without proper cancellation of visa

Hi there,

I worked as a teacher in Dubai last year. I was in a two-year contract and completed one year but became sick over the summer and could not return.

I wrote a letter of resignation and attached a note from my doctor explaining why I would not be able to return. I told my school to use my summer pay to cover any costs incurred.

The school replied and said that my resignation was approved and they did not pay me for the summer, so I assume they used my money to cancel the visa but have no evidence of this.

I would like to be sure that I can re-enter the country to visit friends. Can you help me?

Kind regards

Dear Ma'am,

Thank you for getting in touch with me on this.

Please note that for cancellation of the visa, the employer needs your original passport which will then be submitted to the Immigration office for cancellation of visa. I am assuming this has not been done.

In such a circumstance, two things are possible-

1- Your employer has put an absconding case on you as you did not come to work and their visa obligation is completed here.

2- They have not cancelled your visa, and your visa has automatically been cancelled since you were out of the UAE for more than 6 months.

I hope it's the second situation with you and not the absconding case, as the absconding case can result in a permanent ban on you.

I suggest before travelling to the UAE, you do an inspection with the Immigration department about any impediments on your passport if any.

I can assist you with such an inspection. You can contact me on hari.wadhwana@gmail.com or +971 52 9495731.

Regards,

Hari Wadhwana
