How to know if you have a case or travel ban for an old bank debt and when does it drop?
2
Q: Hi Alona,
I had some loans from banks in 2015 which amounted to 400k from 3 banks. Now with the 2022 rule, I checked and there is no criminal case or travel ban against me which is a relief.
I plan to re-enter Dubai but I fear that the banks put again another case against me for these old debts based on the new commercial/civil law. Is the debt finished?
I don't want to get stuck in Dubai for old loans. Kindly advise on my possible course of action going forward.

Failing to repay loans and negotiating with the bank
1
Q: Hi,
Good morning!
I'm the CEO of a company and this is for a poor and helpless girl who is working in my niece's office.
One boy from Kerala pretended to be loving her, had physical relation and he took some nude photos.
Later, he started blackmailing her and forced to go for a car loan, personal loan and other borrowings to the extent of AED 100,000.
She is a fatherless girl and working for a job at AED 3000. The boy has escaped to Kerala and now not attending the calls. His mother, sister and brother in law are working in Dubai!
Now, the bank and other institutions started putting tremendous pressure on her and she is in a mental trauma.
She doesn't have the money to close all these loans or pay lawyer fees to pursue a case! What to do? She is a 22-year-old girl from India and now in grieve!!
It would be a really great help if you could give a proper legal advice that would certainly give her a ray of hope to live further!
Await your reply.
Best regards,
Suresh

How can I clear the cases filed by the bank for unpaid loan due to job loss?

0
Q: Hi,
I was in the UAE and lost my job in 2016. I left with a credit of less than 300000 as I can't pay without the job so I came back.
I want to know how I can clear my fine or cases now as I came to know from someone that I had a fine of 22000 dirhams.
What if I pay the fine? Does it mean that all the cases will be closed?
You can contact me by email.

The management of individual financial affairs is crucial and all the actions must be weighed down while committing to any financial liability. Whether it's job loss that may have lead to financial failure or the opposite, one must be aware of the personal liability which will not diminish by paying fines for cheque bounce cases. There are two major types of liabilities, criminal liability and civil liability. Each has its own significance, hence, must be dealt with accordingly.

How can we claim our money back if the cheque we received have bounced for insufficient funds? 0
We received a cheque which has now bounced. We have tried for over a month and a half now to get a new cheque from the person, and every day he says the next day.
We need the money now. We have been to the police station, and they said they can not do anything as the reason the cheque bounced is "Insufficient funds."
We have been to Al Barsha - Dubai Courts, and they said there is nothing they can do about it.
We are not sure what we can do. We need the money asap to pay our kids' school fees, let alone all the interest we have lost.

Who is supposed to pay for the transfer fee, the employee or the employer? 0
Hello
I joined my new company on February 26, 2025. Upon joining the new company, I asked HR if it was free to join the company, and she said yes.
After working with them for 1 month, I experienced a salary delay, and I had to go to the office to ask why there was a delay in my salary.
That is when the HR told me she deducted my whole salary to recover the transfer fee.
Now my question is, who is supposed to pay for the transfer fee, the employee or the employer?

Terminating an employee after sick leave and claiming compensation 2
Hello,
My employer fired me under Article 44 for not showing up for work for 7 days in a row. But that’s not the case at all. I was sick and the management was aware and they let me go.
I went to another country to get treatment because it’s expensive in Dubai. My employer did not pay me my salary for the month I worked and fired me.
I have official sick leave from another country and there is correspondence where my employer sent me to another country for treatment.
The problem is that the employer says that he will take compensation for the training that was specified in the contract, but I did not undergo training at all; I immediately started work from the first day of work and there was no training.
Does my employer have the right to charge me such a fee and not pay my salary?

Should the seller in Dubai hand over their tenant's security deposit to the buyer upon completing a sale?
Who is responsible for managing this process?
At the time of the exchange, the broker said he would follow up with the seller and collect the deposit.
He hasn’t, and the seller has not handed over the deposit.

How to cancel the MoU to buy an apartment with the broker if the bank did not approve the loan? 2
Hi,
I have a situation where I signed an MoU and gave my security deposit to the seller's agent. However later, the bank valuation of the property is lower than the selling price.
On my MoU, it has a clause that “the buyer has a right to cancel/negotiate if the bank valuation is not the same as MoU.” I tried to negotiate, however, we didn't agree on the price so I asked to cancel.
Now the agent is threatening me that they will not cancel the MoU and that will deposit my cheque. Later I also came to know that the person I am dealing with is not the same person whose name is mentioned as a broker in the MoU.
The agent I am dealing with is constantly messaging me with threats. I decided not to speak to him and instead, I wrote an email to the broker whose name is mentioned on the MoU but received no response.
I am on a very tight timeline as I need to vacate my apartment in 3 weeks, I found another unit but I don't know if I can pursue this while the initial MoU still not canceled.
Please, I need advice.

If someone has a case in the UAE, can they travel to another GCC country? 2
Hi.
One of my friends joined a Telegram group. They said, "We will transfer some amount to your account, and your task is to transfer this amount to another account. Once the task is completed, you will get 30 or 50 AED per task."
He completed 3 to 4 tasks, but he realized it was not good, so he stopped. After one week, when he opened his account, it was blocked, and the bank said, "We are conducting an investigation; after this, we will let you know."
After some days, he had an accident and went to his home country. He then received a call from a landline number, which was from the Abu Dhabi police station.
They said, "We have received a complaint against you; come to our investigation department." However, due to his surgery and treatment, he could not go.
After some time, his bank account was reopened, and he did not receive any further calls. I want to know, if he comes back to the UAE or goes to any other GCC country, will he face any problems?
If someone has a case in the UAE, can they travel to another GCC country?
Please advise!

I want to open an online shop. Do I need a license to open an Etsy shop? 1
I currently live in Sharjah and have a UAE residence visa but I am not a UAE or GCC national. I want to open an online shop (Etsy or Shopify) to sell handmade items, such as crocheted goods, bookmarks, greeting cards, etc.
Do I need a license to open an Etsy shop?
If so, which license do I need to sell my products online, including UAE and worldwide?
How much would it cost me?
Can I keep my residence visa (sponsored by my father) and not change it?

How can we locate a person with an ongoing legal case? 1
Hello,
I am seeking your legal advice regarding a friend who was previously imprisoned in Abu Dhabi. His case there is now closed, but he has another ongoing case in Dubai.
Currently, we have lost contact with him and are unsure of his whereabouts. How can we check where he is or access any other legal facility?
Are there legal procedures to locate a person with an ongoing case?
What steps should we take to get more information about his status and legal position?
