Is my marriage in Georgia still valid in the UAE?

Dear Sir/Madam,

We got married in Georgia in February 2020. However, we were unable to register our marriage in the UAE because the lockdown started due to COVID-19 when we returned.

The copy of our marriage certificate (with UAE stamp) was misplaced/lost. We have not yet registered our marriage. Is it still valid?

Are we considered legally married?

Dear Questioner,

You are actually a married couple, but a marriage contract is required to be married by the government authorities.

Dear Questioner,

What is your religion?

If you are not Muslims, you can get civil marriage because now you are not married.

He is Muslim. I converted to Islam before that civil wedding we had in Georgia.

As mentioned, the marriage certificate could not get registered in the UAE.

Are we considered legally married or still regarded as single?

In the eyes of the UAE government, you are not married.

Good day,

Hope all is well!

The validity of a marriage certificate depends on the type of transaction.

For example, if you are sponsoring a residency, you can use a copy of your marriage certificate, but it must be attested by the relevant authority.

Hello,

If you have not registered your marriage with UAE officials, then it won't be valid.

Can you issue a replacement for the lost/misplaced one?
