Documents needed for transferring assets of a deceased person to his wife's name
My uncle passed away in Abu Dhabi. He has a bank account, a mobile number, and a car registered in his name in Abu Dhabi.
Please may I know, the following:
1) What are all documents needed for transferring all his assets to his wife's name?
2) Please share the process/steps to be followed.
3) Death certificate issued by the UAE, do we need to attest it with the UAE embassy?
Dear M. S.
Thanks for your question,
I am sorry to hear about your loss.
1) You need to get a power of attorney from the legal heirs and open the succession procedure in the family court.
2) First of all, make the power of attorney from the family members of the deceased and register the succession case in the family court. You may require 2 adult male witnesses during the procedure. You will get a succession certificate after completion of the procedure.
3) Death certificate issued by the UAE government does not require any attestation if you want to use that within the UAE.
If you want my help with the procedure, I can assist you in each step.

Thanks and Regards
A claim for handing over the inheritance is filed for the main steps set out by the UAE law, which includes the following:
- Make a comprehensive inventory of all heirs, including adults and minors, if any.
- A legal summons is made to the person or to a legitimate summons clerk that includes one of the names of the heirs, or a power of attorney is made by all the heirs to do so.
- Bring two witnesses with close knowledge of the heirs and then the application is prepared and detailed in court

Firstly, make the Power of Attorney from the family members of the deceased and open a succession procedure in the family court.
