Q: Hello! I lent money to my office colleague. As a guarantee, he gave me three blank cheques. He is no longer working for the same company. He, in fact, is looking for a new job. It's been two years and he hasn't paid anything. Not sure if I'll deposit the cheque mentioning the amount he borrowed, definitely the cheque will bounce back. I came to know from my other colleagues that if the cheque gets bounced back, the case will go to the court. If the court sees that he is unable to pay, they'll write off this amount and he might be sent to prison for few weeks and I'll no longer be eligible to ask him for the money. Can you please assist on what I should get legally to get my money back? Thanks!

Q: 3 years back I had given a post-dated cheque as a guarantee to a person whom I had to pay the money. In 3 years time before the due date of the post-dated cheque, I had paid him partially by cash and cheque for which I have his signed vouchers and the PDC cheque details. He was supposed to return back my PDC on the due date and collect the balance amount that was around AED 4000. The cheque value was AED 115,000. On the due date, he demanded more money from me and when I refused, he bounced the cheque and filed a cheque bounce case. He said I gave him a cheque of a closed bank account when he asked the money back and claimed the full amount. I was arrested and had to pay the fine for the cheque bounce case. With the agreement I have with me and the payment voucher proof, can I sue him back for the false accusation? And can I claim compensation for spoiling my name and image?

Q: Hi I let my friend use my cheques for rental payments for her apartment which she is renting. Unfortunately, she did not deposit the money until it was the due date so there was a bounced cheque and the real estate included my name for the travel ban case that they filed against my friend.

She assured me that every alternative month before the due date of the cheque she would deposit the said amount in my account.
