Can bounced cheques cases be resolved at the police station?
11
Q: I got a call from Jebel Ali police station as I have a bounced cheque there for 60k with FGB and they want me to go there this morning.
I have been told there is a new policy that allows bounced cheques cases to be resolved at the police station. When the police officer called me he assured me that it can be resolved there within the day.
Is that true? What will happen when I go there?

Issue with rental cheques paid up front
2
Q: Sir,
I have released 7 post dated cheques for house renting on January 12. January 15 is the date of the 1st cheque which is valued 9k. But on January 15, my bank froze my account because my company terminated me. So I told them to not withdraw the cheque coz I got no money in it and I'm cancelling that property.
When I asked them I need to collect my cheque, they told me I cannot. Not unless I pay them 9000.
Do they have the right to do this? I am in a deep problem as they filed a case against me regarding this. So, I want to know.
Thank you.

Police case for bounced cheques issued for rent
0
Q: We rented a business working space at one of the business centres. We used the premises for two months but the service was very bad.
Moreover, our business was a startup, hence it didn't take up. The business centre management had agreed on vacating the place within a week as per our deal. Now, they are not returning our security cheque. We were supposed to pay only AED 4000 for an early exit.
They are arm-twisting us by depositing our monthly cheques along with the security deposit, which of course bounced and they made a police case for which we paid the fine.
They are purely cheating and trying to take the pending rent, but it was agreed that we can vacate.
Please advise what is the next step we can take.

Police report is crucial before issuing a replacement of a lost cheque
5
Q: Hi,
I live in Abu Dhabi.
My landlord lost one of the rental cheques. I have a receipt and a Tawtheeq of when I handed them over to him.
I told him to go to the police and file a lost report and then I can issue a new cheque to him but he states that this will take too much time.
He suggests that he gives me a paper saying that if they find the cheque they will return it to me and to give them a new cheque.
Please note that it's a company managing my landlord's properties.
Please advise

Forcing more payments after clearing a bounced rental cheque
0
Q: Assalamu Alaikum
Dear Ma'am.
I was charged in a cheque bounce case in October 2018, due to a failure of the rent payment through cheque. The cheque amount was AED 14000.
I was summoned only once by the court and was given a fixed time to pay the dues and vacate the house. I have paid all the due rent (Approx AED 17000) last week.
The real estate agency's lawyer is not closing my case, forcing to pay first case amount and some overstayed rent.
Today he said: you have only one-day time to pay court charges and case fees, and overstayed rent, otherwise tomorrow Baladiya will come and throw you out. Is it possible?
Please give me guidance as to when my case will be closed. What is the rule of Baladiya in this case? And is it connected to the renewal of tenancy? Can I renew my Tenancy contract or not?
Please, Can you reply to me now?
I am worried.

Consumer protection and the concept of "cooling period" 0
Is there a law regarding a "cooling period" on an item purchased?
We had a problem with a company distributing vacuum cleaners in Sharjah, we have returned the item to them as we felt like being pressured to buy without giving us time to think before buying, and their contract states that I have to pay 4,000 Dirhams as a cancellation if I return the item within 3 days.
Is it legal? Where is the 3 day cooling period?

Breach of tenant's privacy 0
(If) I took a picture of my tenant's living room and posted it on a property website to rent the property, as we've agreed with the tenant that he vacates the property at the end of the year. Then he found out about the advertisement on the property website in the remaining 3 months before the end of the contract (we have posted the advertisement with the picture of the living room) and informed me to remove it from the website. I removed it immediately, but he has printed out the advertisement with his living room pictures. Now he is saying that if I made any issues to him as a tenant or deny his demands or do not renew his contract or increase the rent he will file a case in the police for the privacy breach. Please note that this was not intentional and it was a mistake without knowing the laws about these things.Q: How long does a person have the time to file for a privacy breach until it's considered invalid or it's long overdue or something similar? Kindly advice. Thank you.
