Q: Hello Madam Hopefully, it’s a beautiful morning over there. I would like to know how to help my sister who’s stuck there in the UAE over absconding from work. It was a family emergency whereby the employer accepted her to travel back to Uganda, unfortunately, the pandemic had started. On reaching the airport, she had some missing paperwork to travel related to COVID-19 tried to reach her boss but he couldn’t help her. So she tried to reach out to her friend. But when she tried to get the full paperwork, her employer had filed an absconding case on her visa and she couldn’t travel back home.

Q: Sir, I have a ban imposed for absconding but I did not abscond. I was terminated and I have the related documents to prove it but my passport was in Dubai Courts for bailing my brother and I have the letter from the court to prove that too. Is there any possibility that I can appeal to lifting my ban and get back to the UAE? I have lived all my life there, finished my school and college then worked for 11 years for the said company that had imposed this ban on me. This Decree sets the rules and conditions for the termination of fixed-term (limited) or unlimited (not term-bound) employment contract between employer and worker in the United Arab Emirates.

The provisions of this Decree-Law, known as "New UAE Labor Law", govern labour relations in the private sector of the United Arab Emirates. The New Labor Law repeals the previous UAE Labor Law (Federal Law No. (8) of 1980).
