How to act if you do not agree on the rent increase proposed by the landlord?

Hi Ma'am,

Can I know what is my legal situation if I refused to accept the rent increase?

Also, as per our contract, the landlord should inform me before 60 days.

What if he didn't notify me?

Thanks

Dear Sir/Madam,

In accordance with the landlord and tenant laws in Dubai, a landlord must give a tenant at least 90 days' notice of increase and changes in the rental and tenancy terms prior to the tenancy renewal date.

The parties will then discuss and negotiate. If you do not agree, the matter goes to the rental disputes committee for determination.

So if you do not agree to the rent increase and the landlord does notify you in advance, your tenancy terms stay the same.

You will be legally entitled to have the tenancy renewed for another year on the old terms.

Hope you find this advice useful.

Many thanks,

Jennifer Arkhurst.

Yes Ma'am,

Your answer is really useful/ But just one thing made me confused, the notice period as per Dubai law is 90 days, but the contract mentioned straight forward on our contract If any parties seek to amend any terms, that will be considered after providing a 60 days' notice.

Thanks and appreciate your help.

The contract is wrong. The landlord cannot amend the law in the contract.
