Questions & Answers
Can the landlord sell the rented property without notifying the tenant?
Dear lawyers,
I am currently locked in a dispute with my landlord about vacating his property. I would like to get some advice regarding the issue.
After my landlord tried to raise the rent on my villa past the RERA Index price, my wife and I decided to give the notice to leave.
We then reverted back to the landlord to offer a new proposal in which he agreed via telephone to consider the new price and let us know, he never got back to us.
A few days ago we have found out he is selling the unit/or has sold it before the end of our tenancy.
Can you please let me know legally where I stand with this issue?
Kind Regards,
Dear Questioner,
Further to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that your landlord has no legal right to sell his villa that you already rented without serving a legal notice for evacuating the property.
Due to the fact that you already get the information that he sold it so you are entitled to sue him before DRDC for claiming reasonable compensation, and the original cheques he has.
We recommend you to not go out of the villa and stay safe. In case you find the other landlord knocking on the door and asking you to leave the villa please call 999.
You SHOULD get proof from the police that the villa has been sold already without your acknowledgement or even serving notarized legal notice.
After you get the proof from the police, we will be able to represent you before the court and sue the landlord for his misconduct to sell the property without notifying you and defying the law.
Should you have any further inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us at our email.
Thanks.
