How can a foreigner obtain a permit to live and work in the UAE

Hi,

I am a Swedish citizen. I wonder if I have any right to live and work in the UAE?

If not, what is required to be done to obtain permission? Do I need a lawyer to apply or it is a straightforward application?

Many thanks

You can apply for a job in the UAE and your company will proceed with your work permit and visa-related things.

You can visit the UAE on a tourist visa.

Call or WhatsApp me for more detail.

Hello K.,

Thank you for your question.

Yes, from a legal standpoint, you have the right to live and work in the UAE, or even come for a visit.

If you already have a job offer, you should make sure to thoroughly review the employment contract to ensure that it is in line with the UAE laws and regulations.

Generally, once you sign the offer letter and provide the employer with the required documents and information, they will apply for your employment visa.

Should you wish to come to the UAE and set up your own business, that is also an available option for you.

First, no matter what kind of business you conduct or own, you are required to have a proper trade license.

Second, most free zones require that to have a license you are also required to have an office. There are certain free zones, however, that allow companies to have a Flexi-desk as an office. A Flexi-desk is not a physical office, but instead is limited use of a desk or an office somewhere.

Third, another requirement is a local bank account. Generally, without a bank account, you cannot apply for a license.

Fourth, if you want to work in the UAE or conduct any sort of business, you must have a residence visa. In addition, it has to be an employment visa specific to the type of work you do.

With regards to buying or renting a property, or vehicles, a lot of things have moved online right now, so there are some things that can be done from abroad. However, things will most likely be required to be finalized in person.

I would recommend having a listen to my free legal podcast, LAWGICAL with LYLAW, prior to coming to the UAE. I cover a variety of relevant legal topics.

We would be delighted to assist you with your move to the UAE and have the necessary experience to do so competently and professionally. Contact us at our email.

Kind regards,

Ludmila
