How to set up a company while working for another?
Q: Hi, I want to become a partner in a company. The issue is I do not want my name or my wife's name to be in the trade license as the company where I am working does not permit the same (even for my spouse). What is the workaround as I need a hold on the new company where I will invest? The other partners are fine with any legal way of doing it. Please help!

100% Foreign Ownership of Companies in the UAE
The UAE government has announced important changes to the federal Commercial Companies Law, the most significant is related to the foreign ownership of mainland companies. This will grant foreign investors the full ownership of share capital in companies carrying out certain activities specified to that effect by the competent authorities. This means that foreign investors’ shares will not be limited anymore to a maximum of 49% like before, but can be up to 100% instead.

The Law abrogates Federal Law No. (8) of 1984 Concerning Commercial Companies.

Rental Dispute for the non-payment of rent
The employee of the real estate agency frauded 6-7 tenants from our building and ran away with the rent money. Now, the real estate lawyer is suing me for not paying the rent and it’s my fault that I gave the cheques to their employees. What can I do?

Bounced rental cheque dispute
Dear Sir, We have paid an amount with Rent Dispute Committee (RDC) for a rent case, but supposedly there is the bounced cheque case still filed with police. Since we have paid based on the court order and paid in court, doesn't the cheque amount drop? Do we pay twice the same amount? Best regards

Consumer protection and the concept of "cooling period"
Is there a law regarding a "cooling period" on an item purchased? We had a problem with a company distributing vacuum cleaners in Sharjah, we have returned the item to them as we felt like being pressured to buy without giving us time to think before buying, and their contract states that I have to pay 4,000 Dirhams as a cancellation if I return the item within 3 days. Is it legal? Where is the 3 day cooling period?

Breach of tenant's privacy
(If) I took a picture of my tenant's living room and posted it on a property website to rent the property, as we've agreed with the tenant that he vacates the property at the end of the year. Then he found out about the advertisement on the property website in the remaining 3 months before the end of the contract (we have posted the advertisement with the picture of the living room) and informed me to remove it from the website. I removed it immediately, but he has printed out the advertisement with his living room pictures.Now he is saying that if I made any issues to him as a tenant or deny his demands or do not renew his contract or increase the rent he will file a case in the police for the privacy breach. Please note that this was not intentional and it was a mistake without knowing the laws about these things.Q: How long does a person have the time to file for a privacy breach until it's considered invalid or it's long overdue or something similar? Kindly advice. Thank you.

I and my wife are going through the divorce. We are both expats. I work and she does not work. I am her sponsor. We have a one-year-old daughter. Who gets the custody of the baby after divorce? Once we get divorced, who will be her sponsor in the UAE? Does she have to leave the UAE? If she gets the custody, how can she stay in the UAE without a sponsor? If she does not have a sponsor, can I get the custody of my daughter?
