What happens if you get pregnant before marriage in the UAE?
Good day Mr Ahmed
I got pregnant in May 2019 and got married this year on August 13, 2019. Should I need to worry about any legalities?
I am 7 months pregnant now and will deliver the baby on February 28.
Dear Questioner,
I will assume that you were not aware of the local laws and regulations of the UAE prior to your pregnancy and I would assume as well that the baby was not conceived in the UAE. As you know, any sexual relations outside of wedlock are not legal.
On the other hand, and from a practical point of view, as long as you approach the hospitals or medical facilities as a married woman for your checkups, and for the delivery of the baby as well as applying for the residency permit of the child and being able to show the marriage certificate and all the other requirements, it should be acceptable by the authorities without any concerns in regards to the dates when you got married and when you had the child.
In some cases, the marriage happens before the pregnancy and the children are born on or before 24 weeks pregnancy for medical reasons and neither the parents nor the hospital is obliged to provide any medical reports to prove that.
In your case is probably more than 24 weeks and I do not see a big threat in your case.
Best regards,
Ahmed Elnaggar
