Q: Carsharing in the UAE + insurance.Our company is setting up a car sharing platform to be launched in Dubai. The concept will make the owners money and enable the hirers to get cheap rental rates.We have learned that it is illegal for private individuals to make money on their car unless they register it as a taxi or similar in RTA. We cannot find the actual law anywhere, and we are wondering why it is illegal?Is there a way to circumvent this issue? For instance by having the owners register their car on our site in a way that would accommodate the RTA requirement? The fines are big for individuals and we don't want any of the customers being fined.In regards to the company, we are also looking for a way to not get fined for facilitating this service. How would we make sure of this? And what would be the insurance requirements in this case?Many thanks in advance!

Q: Hi, I have received a fine amount of AED 500 for the reason that my vehicle broke down on the Al Salam Street near pineapple building on 16-03-2018 (Friday). There was some unknown substance on the road, because of which 4 other vehicles broke down. Police came to the spot and helped us move the vehicles using towing service. On request, they did not provide us with any report of the incident. I was driving a rented car from Shift Car Rentals and they insisted to get a police report, else all the charges of the damage would be on me. Hence on 18-03-2018, I went to request an incident report from the police. The officer did investigate and said he is going to mention that I had hit a substance. I said it is fine and he proceeded with the report. I was never told that I would be fined for this reason. It's not my mistake that there was something on the road which even the police could not find when they had come to help us. I do not know why am I fined for no reason. Kindly assist.

Q: I was looking to seek some legal advice regarding my case. I had a traffic accident that has been referred to the traffic court. No one else was involved or injured just me. My car crashed into a post. I am also fine, my car is not. I was taken to hospital but left of my own accord and went to the police station the next day. Q: Hi, I had a car accident a week ago. I have burns on both arms because of the airbag; a 2nd-degree burn on one arm. I got my car directly from the company, not a second hand. The injured person is entitled to claim damages where he has suffered an injury due to the other person’s wrongdoing. The victim may file a case against the person, who is found guilty in a criminal case or his insurance company if the defaulter has secured himself by insurance. The UAE civil law allows filing a compensation claim for injury damages.
