The legal and financial rights of a son from his father

Hello,

I'm enquiring about a law in the UAE. I'm a British citizen born in Shrewsbury, but my father is from Dubai.

Written in the law the firstborn Arab son is entitled to his father's fortune/ land. I've lived in England my whole life as I didn't have a choice when I was younger as certain events took place.

If you type this story on google you'll come across a story of me that made international news. This story made headlines as my father tried kidnapping me and taking me back to Dubai.

Basically, I want more information and my legal entitlements as I'm now 22 years of age.

Dear Questioner,

Thanks for your question and kindly note that what is written in your question - the firstborn Arab son is entitled to his father's fortune/ land - is not correct nor accurate, especially that you did not elaborate when and what conditions will entitle the son to such assets.

In order to advise you correctly, please elaborate more on what are you looking for in your question.

You have to specify what are you asking about, like for example, do you want to understand your legal rights and entitlements in terms of financial support during the lifetime of your father?

Did your father die and you are asking about your entitlements as per your share among other legal heirs?

Do you know if your father has other children or kids from another marriage?

All such information matter to answer you correctly.

I would advise you to collect the relevant information and then contact me through email to advise you accordingly.

Best regards,

Ahmed Elnaggar

Hello,

Thank you for the rapid response.

I'd like to know my legal rights and entitlements in terms of financial support during the lifetime of my father.

And am I entitled to anything when he dies?

I hope this answers your questions. I am a UAE citizen and a British citizen also.

Kind regards,

A. H.

As you are currently an adult of 22 years old, you are not entitled to any financial support during the lifetime of your father.

If he is willingly giving you any kind of financial support as an adult, this is up to him but not a legal obligation.

After his death, you may claim your right to inherit your share of his legacy as per the sharia distribution if both of you are Muslim / UAE nationals.

Best regards,
