The expected punishment of defaulting on credit card

Hello Adv. Anitha,

I would like to know what will happen if the credit card security cheque bounces? Will there be arrest & jail terms? The credit card outstanding is AED 22,000.

Dear Questioner,

Good afternoon.

Thanks for keeping in touch with me.

Even though your credit card payment outstanding is 22,000/-, the security cheque which you issued at the time of availing the loan will be bearing a different amount.

If you fail to make payment of 3 consecutive EMI's the bank may present the cheque and if it gets bounced, there will be a criminal case against you.

If you don't appear before police when called for, there are chances of getting arrested during travel or on some other occasions.

Whether the judgment will be for payment of fine or jail term depends on the amount in the cheque and also at the discretion of the judge.

Hope it is clear for you.

Please feel free to contact me at 0556635526 or WhatsApp me at 0508575526 if you need any further assistance or clarification.

Regards,

Anitha Rajeev
