Does the jail term start counting from the date of arrest or date of judgment?

My brother is in jail for the last 2 months in Abu Dhabi, UAE. On 10/2/2022, the judge gave judgment for three months in jail and evict from the country.

My question is do they count the days since they arrest my brother or from the day of judgment?

Please let me know

Dear Questioner,

The count begins from the day of the arrest.

Thank you very much Ma'am.

But today I went to jail to check how many days are left to release my brother.

They checked the system and replied that he needs to spend 2 and half months more because days count from the day of judgment.

Please help me, I am so worried.

Dear U. S.,

If your brother was not on bail after the arrest, then days are counted from the day of arrest.

If he received bail after the arrest and only went to jail after the judgment, then the count begins from the day of the judgment.
