Q: Hello I am writing to ask about a civil case, I recently went on maternity leave and my company does not pay a salary in this period. The bank filed a criminal case so I was stopped at the airport on arrival and processed at the police station. The next day I went in front of a judge who asked if I had the money to pay at that time or pay a fine, so I paid the AED 10000 fine. It's been almost 3 months and the bank keeps increasing my debt (my account is on minus). Question is, should I go to court again to ask them to get the bank to issue a clearance certificate or what should I do?

Q: Dear Sir, I have a credit card cheque bounce case of AED 57,000. I've already paid the fine of AED 2020 in the police station but the bank is still calling me a for the payment of AED 57,000. They told me they're filing a civil case against me. Please tell me about the further procedure if they file a civil case, and if there is any travel ban or any other fine on me.

Q: I have a car loan default of AED 24000/- with Ajman bank. The bank filed a case for 52000/- (bounced security cheque). I paid fine and cleared the case and travel ban. What is the net step by the bank now? Shall I approach the bank to solve the case? Let me know what is the next procedure. Thanks and regards

Q: Hi I am working in Dubai and I have a credit card with limit 10000 (which is fully used) and a personal loan of AED 37000 balance with a bank. The last 9 months, I was having problems with my job and was not able to pay my credit card minimum amount, but I have not defaulted on my loan amount. Yesterday, I got a call from a legal agent claiming to file a case for the credit card. I am not in a situation to pay both the dues together but I can pay my credit card dues once I settle my personal loan which is 3700 x 10 more months. How to resolve the issue? If they file a case against me, will I be imprisoned for the said amount of AED 10,000?

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I took out a credit card and did not pay the dues for 3 months. I received a notice to pay. I have now arranged to pay the overdue amount. The card limit is 15,000 and the overdue amount is 3,300. I have arranged to pay 3,300 and then make the full payment of the card before next month's due date. Will legal action be taken against me even if I pay the overdue amount? Kindly clarify!

This Law promulgates the Federal Penal Code (Criminal Law) of the United Arab Emirates. Crimes and chastisement punishments shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of this Law and other penal codes.

The provisions of this law, promulgating UAE Civil Code, govern the civil transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The commercial transactions remain subject to the laws and regulations applicable in their regard.

This Law applies to merchants, as well as to all acts of commerce carried out in the UAE by any person even though he be not a trader. Commercial matters regarding which specific Federal laws are issued shall be subject to the provisions of such laws, and to the provisions hereof which do not contradict with said laws.

The provisions of this Decree by Law amend the Federal Law No. (18) of 1993 by replacing Clause (4) of Article (379) as well as Articles (600), (617), (641), (642), (643), (644), and adding new articles numbered (635) Bis, (641) Bis (1), (641) Bis (2), (641) Bis (3), (641) Bis (4), (643) Bis (1), (643) Bis (2), (644) Bis (1) and (644) Bis (2). The Decree-Law also repeals Articles (401), (402) and (403) of the Federal Law No. (3) of 1987.
