Can I legally stop working if my labour contract has expired and the company’s license is blocked?

Hello,

The company made a change of status for me, which expires on 7/10. My labour card expired on 23/9. I signed a 2-year contract, but they didn’t stamp the visa. The contract is now not showing in my UAE Pass app. In the MOHRE app, my 2-month contract expired on 24/9.

Can I leave work now since the contract has expired, and the visa wasn’t stamped, and the contract is not showing in the UAE Pass app, which means they didn’t even submit it?

I went to Tasheel, and they told me I can stop working as I have already filed a complaint with MOHRE for one week’s salary and Emirates ID fees.

I started on 25/7. The employer paid me only for August. When I asked for my July salary, he gave me a warning letter with a 20% salary deduction. He then complained against me to MOHRE, but MOHRE closed his complaint.

For my complaint, they asked me to keep working and wait for MOHRE’s final decision. What should I follow, as the Tasaheel agent told me the company’s license is blocked, and they will not process my contract, so he advised me to stop working and find another job?

Yes, you can safely stop working now, because your contract has expired and your visa is no longer valid.

All you need to do is file a complaint with MOHRE and claim your unpaid wages. Meanwhile, start arranging your transition to a new job.

From what you have explained, your situation is quite clear: the company failed to complete your visa and labour contract formalities, your temporary contract with MOHRE has already expired, and the company’s licence is blocked, which means they cannot legally employ you or regularise your status.

In such a scenario, you are not bound to continue working because:

- Your labour card already expired on 23/9.

- The 2-month contract showing in MOHRE also expired on 24/9.

- No residence visa or stamped labour contract was issued.

- MOHRE has already closed the employer’s complaint against you.

Since Tasaheel has confirmed that the employer cannot process your contract due to the blocked licence, you can safely stop working and start looking for a new job. However, you should still pursue your pending dues — July salary, unpaid days of September, Emirates ID fees, and any other entitlements — by following up with MOHRE.

If needed, we can escalate this to the Labour Court to secure your rights.

I strongly advise you to act quickly, as your immigration status must be regularised before overstaying penalties begin.

I can assist you in filing a formal labour case, recovering your dues, and guiding you step-by-step to secure a new legal employment status in the UAE.

Yes, you can leave your job now while retaining all your rights, as your employer failed to fulfill his basic obligations.

He failed to stamp your visa, did not provide a valid employment contract in official applications, and failed to pay your wages.

Since you have filed a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation regarding the non-payment of your wages, you still retain the right to claim your full legal entitlements.

Hello,

Since your labor card expired on 23/9 and your contract for two months expired on 24/9 without being stamped or showing on the MOHRE or UAE PASS apps, your employment status is likely considered inactive or unregistered as per the UAE Labor Law. The stamped and registered contract with MOHRE is the official proof of employment.

If the company license is blocked and they cannot process your contract or visa stamping, this further indicates the company's inability to maintain a valid employment relationship with you.

You can safely stop working based on this status, but you should seek to secure all unpaid salaries, including July and August, and ensure no unlawful deductions or penalties are applied.

Labour complaints and investigations by MOHRE typically advise continuing work pending final decisions, but in your case, given the company issues and Tasheel’s advice, you have grounds to stop working and seek new employment opportunities.

Keep all correspondence, warning letters, complaints, and payment proofs safely. For full protection of your rights and assistance in recovering dues or obtaining a new job, professional legal assistance is recommended.

Be advised, since your labor contract expired, your visa was not stamped, and it’s not showing in UAE Pass, you are legally allowed to stop working.

The company’s license is blocked, so they cannot process your contract. You can stop working and start looking for a new job, while keeping all MOHRE-compliant records as proof of unpaid salary and ID fees.
