I am in a rental dispute with my landlord. What can I do if the landlord is not responding to settlement?
Q: I am in a rental dispute with my landlord and last week the landlord told the judge he was willing to settle during the court session online, this week he is not replying to my emails to come up with a settlement plan. Can I go to the RDC center this morning and come up with a payment plan directly with the Rental Dispute Centre? We have another court session this afternoon at 4:00 PM and the judge has requested that we come up with a settlement plan before then.

How can I get my visa canceled for new employment if my free zone company has gone bust?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I am a free zone employee who resigned from the company. The company went bust and cannot cancel my visa. I raised a dispute with the Free Zone Authority, which was then transferred to MOHRE, and now I have to approach Al Adheed. I need to cancel my visa so that I can get hired elsewhere. The Free Zone Authority advised me to submit a court letter. Is this the NOC they are requesting? My priority is not receiving my dues but rather getting my visa canceled.

Q: A friend of mine is in a difficult situation. She has a child, but the child’s father has kicked her out of their room and taken custody of the child. The father is from Yeman. He has also been physically harming her—she has visible bruises—and has taken her Emirates ID and mobile phone, leaving her with nowhere to go, she has a job. Can the wife lose the custody of her children due to a medical condition?
Q: I am a Hindu and my husband has filed for divorce in Dubai. We both stay in Dubai. He claimed for custody of our 11-month-old twins. The divorce is because of domestic violence and interference by his mother. I have had a history of epilepsy (a very rare occurrence) since 2011. I have been taking regular medication and working since 2011 as a teacher. The last time I had a seizure was in August 2023 when I was pregnant. No one was hurt although I fainted. My husband is claiming for the custody on these grounds. I have been staying with my kids, all by myself for the past 2 months. My husband has left me and my kids and stays somewhere else. I have worked in the US (2015-16) all by myself and have been working as a teacher in Dubai for 1.5 years. I have been driving in India since 2007 with no accidents or fines. My epilepsy has never affected my profession or lifestyle. I have been to different countries all by myself. Are there fair chances of me getting custody of my 11-month-old twins?+4

Should I unblock the debtor to settle the bounced cheque, or is it risky?
Q: Good day, I posted my case here about a bounced cheque. Now, the debtor has reached out, asking me to unblock him temporarily because his accounts have been frozen and his cars will be seized. He said he would handle it from his side. He has a history of making excuses, but I want to get paid as soon as possible. I have a deportation from Dubai for overstaying. Can I return to the UAE if the system shows an escape report?
Q: I had a deportation from Dubai for overstaying, but they didn`t take my fingerprints or eye scan. The officer at the airport said I can return after 6 months. Is this possible? Recently, I checked on the ICP smart services reports option and there is an still escape report from immigration after a year.+1

How to know if there is a case or travel ban if someone left the UAE with unpaid Du bills?
Q: Hello Lawyers, Back in 2015, my sister was living with my mom in Dubai. She bought an iPhone on a plan with Du during that time. After a few months and due to circumstances, she had to go back to our country. She took the phone but left the sim here and to my and my mom`s knowledge, she didn`t finish paying the remaining balance. My question is if she wants to come back here to Dubai, what kind of penalty she will face? Is she going to have a travel ban? Or will immigration stop her when entering the country? How to recover the amount to be paid by the employer after getting the labor judgment?
Q: Hi, I got the final decision from the labor court that my employer has to pay me 23000 dirhams. I went to the Al Adheed Center, and they took 220 dirhams fees and papers from me which were issued by the court, and told me to come back after a week to check my status. Can a newly added no sharing clause impact a 5-year living arrangement with friends?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I am a tenant in Dubai and rented an apartment five years ago. It was understood that I would stay in the apartment with my two friends, but this was not documented anywhere. Today, the landlord is unhappy with the rent amount, as rents have risen higher than he can legally increase it. In my latest contract from this year, a line was added in the additional comments stating that sharing is not allowed. I didn’t notice this and signed it, although this clause was not in previous contracts. My question is: can they use this clause to cause any issues for me?

The landlord served me an eviction notice for sale. Can I stay if I prove his intention is to increase rent?
Q: I have been renting an apartment in Dubai for 5 years. The landlord was not happy last 3 years as they were not able to raise rent more than the RERA calculator. In 2023, they sent me an email, non-notarized, asking me to evict the property for the reason of personal use. I refused this as it did not go through court and the contract was renewed for another year. This time, in 2024, they sent a court eviction notice with a reason for sale. It was sent 12 months before the end of the contract. In the period since the notice was sent, they did not try to sell the property or list it anywhere for sale. My question is, can I dispute the notice based on the reason they do not show any intent to sell, and that I suspect they only want me out so they can re-rent it higher?
