Q: Dear Sir/Madam,
I was terminated and provided with a three-month notice period in accordance with my employment contract.
However, the contract is fixed-term (following a switch from an unlimited-term contract) and the termination occurs before the end of this contract's two-year term.
I would like to inquire whether I am entitled to compensation equivalent to three months' salary, as I have read in the federal labor law.
Additionally, the termination letter did not specify the reason for my termination.

Forced to pay visa cost and terminated for another's mistake. What to do?

Q: Dear Sir/Madam,
I am working in a company on probation for 2 months. Due to a mistake done by the former employee who worked in my position, the employer gave me a termination letter with 30 days' notice without considering my explanation.
Also, the prior employee came to train me for these two months and his payment was deducted from my salary.
The employer asked me to pay more than 6000 AED as visa cost from this month's & next month's salary.
As per the contract letter I signed with him, there is a clause as I have to bare the cost of employment (visa related) if terminated on probation.
Kindly help on this since I have to work without payment till my last working day even though it is not a voluntary resignation but an unfair termination.

إنهاء عقد العمل للموظف قبل مرور سنة دون دون فرض غرامة أو حرمان

س: سيدي العزيز،
هذا السؤال موجه للمحامين في دولة الإمارات.
لقد كتب صاحب العمل في عقدنا المحدود أنه لا يمكنني العمل في أي عمل منافس في دولة الإمارات لمدة عام واحد إذا تم إنهاء العقد من قبلي أو من قبله وأيضًا سطر آخر ينص على أنه يتعين علي دفع 3000 درهم كرسوم تدريب إذا كان العقد يتم إنهاؤه قبل مرور عام من تاريخ العقد (لم أتلق أي تدريب على الإطلاق).
هل هناك أي طريقة يمكنني من خلالها إنهاء العقد قبل مرور عام واحد دون أي غرامة أو حرمان من العمل؟
(سبب إنهاء العقد هو العمل الإضافي لمدة 16 ساعة عمل مع ظروف معيشية سيئة للغاية).

I am writing to seek your urgent assistance regarding an ongoing issue with my employer, pertaining to the release of my passport.
Despite multiple attempts to communicate and retrieve my passport through email correspondence, my employer has not complied with my request, and my passport is still in their possession.
This situation has persisted, even though legal proceedings are underway, and the final judgment is scheduled to be delivered on 15/02/2024.
I am deeply concerned about the implications of this delay on my personal and professional life. The retention of my passport not only hinders my ability to carry out routine activities but also raises questions about compliance with legal obligations.
I would appreciate your counsel on the legal recourse available if my employer remains unwilling to pay the owed amount even after the final judgment.
