How to deal with a broker who keeps trying to increase rent?
Hi,
My broker has been trying to increase my rent beyond what is allowed by RERA for three years.
They make it difficult for me to file a complaint, but eventually, they always send an offer that is in line with RERA's calculator.
They know that we will eventually renew the contract at the RERA-approved rate, but they still keep doing this every year. They waste my time and energy with long, pointless negotiations.
What can I do to stop this? The owner is not an Emirati.
Thanks for the answers!
Dear Client,
Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will definitely assist you in this matter.
Based on the information provided, if your broker consistently tries to increase the rent unlawfully and causes inconvenience, you can take the following steps:
(1) Document the rent increase attempts and communication with the broker.
(2) File a complaint with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).
(3) If the owner is not in the UAE, try to talk to him directly over the phone. you can involve RERA in addressing the matter.

Dear Questioner,
Do not listen to him and renew the contract in the court.
To your knowledge, the landlord has three options for raising your rent or evicting you:
1. If he is a new landlord.
2. If you failed to pay one or two cheques.
3. If you have a fight with your neighbors supported by a police report.
If you do not have any of the issues listed above, we can certainly renew your contract through the courts with the same rent rate.
