Dear Questioner,

I am sorry for your loss. May the soul rest in peace.

From the above description, it is not clear what is the purpose of obtaining the certificate. I assume the deceased has left assets in the UAE and has not registered a WILL in any of the registries in the UAE.

In the absence of a WILL, the family will have to open an Inheritance case in the Personal Status Court in Dubai.

Upon the submission of a valid PoA, passport copies of the deceased and of the family [along with visa page of the deceased] and a death certificate [has to be attested and legalised], the court will issue a Legal Heir Certificate.

You will have also to present two male witnesses to promise before the Court with regard to the relationship of the deceased with the applicants of Legal Heir Certificate.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further assistance or guidance in this matter.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Yes, my husband died without a will suddenly. He lived in Abu Dhabi for more than 10 years and had an account with money.

To open an inheritance case in Dhabi courts, do I need to appoint a lawyer or I can do it myself?

I am currently in India. Do I have to go there for this?

Thank you

Either you can come to Abu Dhabi and directly appoint a lawyer or send a legalised PoA from India to a lawyer in Abu Dhabi.

In that case, the PoA shall be from all the family members such as mother, father, children, siblings [if any].
