Power of Attorney drafting and attestation fees in the UAE

A Power of Attorney or a PoA is a notarized document in which the PRINCIPAL gives to another AGENT the power to act on behalf of the former with regard to legal matters.

There are mainly two different types of Power of Attorney. General PoA or a Specific PoA. Since you have not explained the reason behind the execution of the PoA, I believe it would be better if I explain it to you properly.

A general PoA is a broad list of powers given to the agent by the principal to act on the principal's behalf during his absence in a specific location or being unable to perform due to ill health...etc.

Whereas a Specific PoA gives some specific powers only to the agent by the principal. In this type of PoA, the principal may specifically describe the powers assigned to the agent and the agent will not have any power to do any acts on behalf of the principal except the specified powers in the specific PoA.

You may get it drafted by any lawyer or legal consultant or even in a typing centre. A PoA in the UAE shall be in either in Arabic or bilingual. The stamping and attestation shall be done in the UAE Courts.

When a Power of Attorney is executed in another country but will be used in the UAE, the following must be done:

The document needs to be signed in front of the notary/magistrate/solicitor in the said country and then attested in the foreign office of that country, legalized by the UAE Embassy to be translated into Arabic in the UAE, attested by the Foreign Office in the UAE, legalized by the UAE’s Ministry of Justice.

The charges depend upon the person or institution drafting it and the service offered along with it.

Please note that any such PoA can be cancelled any time by the Agent or Principal whenever they feel necessary.
