Questions & Answers
My friend is detained for drink driving and causing an accident. What is he facing?
Dear Sir/Madam,
My friend is detained for drink driving and causing an accident. The car he was driving was a rented vehicle. His hearing is scheduled three days from today.
What consequences might he face? Does he have to go to prison? What are the chances of deportation or his UAE license being suspended?
Kindly suggest and help!
Dear Questioner,
First, your friend should hire a lawyer to represent him and help him avoid any complications in his case.
Second, the lawyer should review the status of this case and evaluate it.
Accordingly, the lawyer can provide legal solutions and represent him before the public prosecution.

Dear questioner,
Your friend is facing a big fine, and imprisonment, as well as deportation.
All of these punishments are under the judge's discretion. Usually, we see that such cases end with big fines (20,000 AED) and sometimes deportation.
We highly recommend hiring a lawyer to enhance the chances of soft punishment at least.

Dear Questioner,
Now he has three cases: driving while drinking, the accident, and the rental car company will open a case against him.
He must have a lawyer with him immediately.
He will be liable for the damages of the rental and may face up to six months imprisonment, suspension of driver's license for up to a year, a fine, at a minimum of AED 25,000, and deportation is a possibility depending on the orders issued by the court.
Additionally, note that the punishment will be more severe in case of injury or death sustained by anyone as a result of the accident.
AS

In the UAE, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is considered a serious offense and is punishable by law.
Your friend could face imprisonment, fines, and/or deportation depending on the severity of the accident and the amount of alcohol in his system.
According to Article 49 of the UAE Traffic Law, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can result in imprisonment for a period of up to three months, a fine of up to AED 20,000, and/or both.
In cases where the driver causes an accident resulting in injury or death, the punishment can be more severe. In addition to the legal consequences, your friend's UAE driving license may also be suspended for a period of time.
This can range from three months to one year, depending on the circumstances of the case and the emirates in which the accident has occurred.
As for deportation, this is a possibility if your friend is found guilty of a serious offense or if he has a history of similar offenses.
However, this decision is at the discretion of the authorities and cannot be predicted.
