Q: Hi, I am an ex-pat working for a company in Iraq registered/based in Dubai. At the beginning of the pandemic, my income was cut by 35% for a minimum period of 6 months. I still remain in that position today, I would like to quest the legality of this when I believe my company was in trouble before the pandemic and this is a convenient way for the cuts to be made. What can I do if my company is pressuring me to sign an unfair new contract?

Q: Dear Lawyers, I joined a company in Dubai. According to the contract agreement given to me by the company, if I leave before the fixed contract period, I have to give two months' notice and pay a sum of 6000 dirhams. I agreed to this and continued to work under that agreement. However, the company has now introduced a new contract agreement, and all employees are under pressure to sign it. The new conditions state that no employee can take a similar job in the UAE and must agree to pay USD 3500 (AED 12600) upon leaving during the contract period. I received a termination letter from my company for restructuring. Is this considered arbitrary dismissal?

I received a termination letter from my company on January 31st, 2025, with a one-month notice period, stating my last working day as February 28th, 2025. The reason given for the termination is "considering the current business scenario, the company has considered measures to reorganize the business." Could this be considered arbitrary dismissal? Do I need to hire a lawyer if I found I have a marital case against me in the court?

By checking in Al Adheed, I have found there is a marital matter case against me in Dubai Courts. There is a hearing date for next week and the time mentioned in the case status with a link for an online hearing. However, I have not received any message from Dubai courts regarding this by mail or phone. I have all contact details updated with EID. In this case, what should I do?
