Today, I called this client to find out that they are not answering calls, and when I went to their office I found it closed and many of their suppliers in the corridors complaining about their Bank Cheques that were bounced back (rejected). The owner of this company seems to have already left the UAE and none of his employees is answering the phone. So most probably the bank cheque that they gave me (AED 57250) will bounce back Thursday. So I want to start taking action now. I sold them 10000 boxes of 15 Kg lemon, which they stored in a third-party cold storeroom in Dubai. I went and found that the lemon is still there. Q: We are a Dubai-based company and had business relationship with another Dubai registered company whose owner is Lebanese. The company owes us close to AED 1.8 million as their cheques were dishonoured. We have filed a case against the company with Dubai Police, but the owner has since returned to Lebanon. Although we have contact with him he is not committing as to when he will pay us. Can we file a case against him in Lebanon, and if so, how do we go about it?

Q: Compensation for poor performance & false accusations. We hired a consultancy agency to provide us with their services. During our working relationship, the deliveries were consistently late, and the service was unreliable. We gave them numerous chances to improve performance and meet timelines. The details of these problems have been communicated to them repeatedly but they did not address the problems in a timely manner, causing us extra expenses in addition to mental and emotional agony. During the project, my father passed away & they have used this matter as an excuse to pause work on the project without notifying us causing us further delays. Recently, we serviced them a notice for contract termination for their failure to adhere to mentioned services. In response, they have wrongfully accused me of talking badly about their staff & making insulting & inappropriate comments about their work which have made the working relationship difficult. Do we have legal rights to pursue?

Q: I paid AED 15000 to avail services of a holiday service provider. Looks like the company is shut down now. I am not getting any responses. Is there any way to get the money back?

Q: Good day, Please advise on the following: Our company ordered an advertising service from another company in Dubai. We have paid the full amount in advance, but have not received any service. It's been around 11 months since the order was placed and paid. The advertising company representative doesn't answer phone calls, same goes for their office. Q: My name is N. from [-------- Ltd], an importer of energy storage products based in New Zealand. We are in the process of seeking a refund from our supplier (an LLC in Dubai) to recuperate funds from deposits we have paid for stock that we have never received. The total credit we have with the LLC is USD $68,030.62. This is split across 2 orders; the first purchase order is dated 4th March 2021, and payment was made on 9 March 2021, totaling USD $29,217.50. We then issued a second purchase order dated 26th May 2021, and payment was made on 3 June 2021, totaling USD$38,473.12. Total payments and credit on 3rd June 2021 were USD $68,450.62. The total goods received on 3 June 2021 were USD $420.00. Total owed to [------Ltd] on 3 June 2021was $68,030.62. This was delayed until November 2022 and is still not ready, we issued a formal order for cancellation on 14 December 2022.

This Law applies to merchants, as well as to all acts of commerce carried out in the UAE by any person even though he be not a trader. Commercial matters regarding which specific Federal laws are issued shall be subject to the provisions of such laws, and to the provisions hereof which do not contradict with said laws.

The law promulgates UAE Civil Procedures Code (Civil Procedure Law) which governs civil procedures in the United Arab Emirates, including the prosecution before the courts, litigation and execution.
