The accuracy of a statement regarding motion pictures
Dear Sir/Madam,
Can anyone comment on the legal accuracy of this statement? The statement specifically concerns motion pictures.
Statement: No media can be shown in any public context (let alone a classroom) that is not approved by the UAE media regulations and subject to approved country ratings.
I cannot find this in Federal Law 15. If it is true, can the source be identified?
Dear Client,
Thanks for your question!
I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.
The statement inaccurately describes UAE media regulations.
While the UAE has media regulations, they primarily apply to publications and the press, not motion pictures.
The National Media Council regulates media content, including movies, but the focus is on aligning content with cultural and social values.

Dear Questioner,
The UAE media regulations are set out in a number of different laws and regulations, including the National Media Council (NMC) Law, the Federal Law on Audiovisual Media Content, and the NMC's Media Content Guidelines.
The NMC's Media Content Guidelines provide more detailed guidance on the types of content that are and are not acceptable for distribution in the UAE.
Please go through the guidelines.
If you need further clarification, we can arrange a consultation for a charge.
Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry regarding the legal implications of displaying media, particularly motion pictures, in public contexts such as classrooms in the UAE.
Upon reviewing your query, it's important to note that while Federal Law 15 provides a comprehensive framework for media regulations, the specific details about the approval process and country ratings may not be explicitly outlined in this legislation.
The regulation of media content, including motion pictures, often involves a combination of federal laws, local regulations, and guidelines set forth by relevant authorities.
To gain a more accurate understanding of the legal requirements related to the public display of media, especially in educational settings, I recommend consulting the UAE National Media Council and relevant local authorities.
They are instrumental in overseeing and implementing media regulations, including content approval and classification.
If you have specific concerns about a particular source or statement, it would be beneficial to identify the origin of the information to ensure its accuracy and applicability to your situation.
