Can a Hong Kong credit card company file a case against me in Dubai for unpaid debts?

I have around 130k USD in credit card debt across three companies in Hong Kong. I have been trying to negotiate settlements with them but not all are being accommodating.

What would be the next steps from these companies to recover the debts from me (as a Dubai resident) if they are unwilling to accept my repayment offers?

Are they likely to pursue claims through a Dubai court?

I have no assets at all and earn a fixed wage on a fixed-term contract.

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question, I hope you are doing well. I will definitely assist you in this matter.

Creditors from Hong Kong may continue collection efforts, pursue legal action there, or sell the debt to third parties.

They could also attempt international legal action or enforce foreign judgments in the UAE. Negotiation remains an option.

Consult with us to understand your situation and options better.

It is unlikely that the credit card companies will pursue claims through Dubai Courts.

This is because it is expensive and time-consuming to litigate in a foreign country.

Additionally, Dubai law may not be favorable to credit card companies.

If they have a judgment order over there, they can submit it here in Dubai court.

And if the judge is convinced, they can initiate action against you.

The creditor can file a lawsuit against the debtor in the court where the debtor resides.

Upon obtaining a final judgment, they will initiate an execution file against you, leading to a decision to garnish a quarter of the salary, in addition to imposing a travel ban.

This is if there are no assets that can be seized.
