Q: Hello. I owe a bank here in the UAE a credit card debt amount. Due to circumstances (losing my main source of income, having other financial burdens, including monthly medical bills for cancer treatment & medications etc., and  I don't have health insurance), I haven't been able to pay back on time since over a year ago. Hence, that amount has since accumulated from a small figure to a relatively big one (currently at around AED 70,000). I have received an email recently from some "credit collection" agency, saying that if I don't pay back next month, they'll put a travel ban on me and file a civil case. However, it is impossible for me to pay this amount at this time. I am currently making "some" income (not as close as I used to before, but still), and have the intention to resolve this issue. Is there any way to reach a settlement with the bank (maybe to waive part of the amount or the interest), break down the monthly installments to smaller amounts, or any other solution you would suggest? Q: Is a bank obligated by law or financial regulation to provide a payment plan for a credit card loan if the monthly instalments are too high?If the answer is no, what can I do to avoid legal action and only pay half the instalment which is what I can afford? 

Q: I have four credit cards which I am using last 5- 6 years. My financial situation has currently changed dramatically, and I am not in a position to repay the minimum payments. Until the last month, all the payments were accurate. All four credit cards entitle to use AED 100,000. As per my knowledge, the bank will file a case against me and I would like to know what actions can I take to avoid prison. In addition, I think I need a lawyer so that he can take care of my documents and release me if they will catch me. Could you please tell me what will the next step be? How can I get a court decision in my favor and obtain a police clearance certificate after all this? Thanks.

Q: I unintentionally left the UAE in 2016 due a to family emergency with an unpaid credit card and a few loans. Since I have got confirmed by a Dubai based colleague that I have a police case already for bounced cheques cases. How do I go about the settlement from outside the UAE? I have heard of the fines imposed as well as bounced cheque criminal case has been demoted to a minor misdemeanour in Dubai. Involved banks are ADCB (loan of 120k), FGB (credit card - 70k), ENBD (credit card - 20k), HSBC (credit card - 13k) and CITIBANK (loan of 31k). Thank you for your help. Please advise on the action that I can take to settle my issue without going to Dubai, UAE.

Q: I have a car loan default of AED 24000/- with Ajman bank. The bank filed a case for 52000/- (bounced security cheque). I paid fine and cleared the case and travel ban. What is the net step by the bank now? Shall I approach the bank to solve the case? Let me know what is the next procedure. Thanks and regards

Q: Hello. I have a credit card in a bank, at first they are asking me to show proof on why I wasn't able to pay my dues, so from my end, I submitted all papers. Now, they asked me to pay the minimum, and when I asked when they will send me a settlement offer, they are telling me they cannot provide because I have a personal loan. For this personal loan, they filed a case against me 5 months ago and I went to prosecution and paid the fees. So, the settlement offer for my credit card is not possible because of my loan also. But before, they have asked me for proof to show and now they are refusing me. Is this correct or it depends on the bank's discretion?

The provisions of this law, promulgating UAE Civil Code, govern the civil transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The commercial transactions remain subject to the laws and regulations applicable in their regard.
