As the bank has already filed the case against you for the bounced cheque, which is a criminal offence, you have no other choice than going to attend before the public prosecutor and confess signing the cheque.

Depending on the cheque value, you will get the punishment. In case the value is AED 200,000 or less, it is most likely that you will get only a fine punishment without imprisonment.

If this happens, you will be cleared of the criminal offence. However, the civil part is still open as the bank may file a case against you for the repayment of the value of the cheque which is most likely supporting the loan value.

In this case, you can reapproach the bank to renegotiate as they know now that it will be easier for them to settle than to chase unexisting funds.
