Consequences of a pending RDC case and guarantee cheque

Is the case filed at the Rental Dispute Center in Dubai considered a civil case?

Will you be banned from travelling if you have a case with the Rental Dispute Center?

What if the flat occupied has no contract but has used the guarantee cheque to bounce the cheque and file a criminal case?

Thank you for your time and reply

Dear Questioner,

With reference to your inquiry, kindly be informed that:

1. RDC Cases are rental cases, not civil ones.

2. The Landlord can file a criminal case with the said cheque, even if there's no tenancy contract.

3. If the amount is AED 10,000+, then the Landlord can file a Travel Ban separately, but filing the RDC case itself does not ban the tenant at all unless there's a judgment issued against him.

4. If the tenant can prove that the landlord has misused the cheque, then he can sue the landlord for the same.

Kind regards,

Sherif M. ElKhatib
