Q: Hi. I would like to ask a question. I had a bank loan in 2013, and due to crises, I lost my job in 2015 and couldn't continue my loan instalments. But now, I got a job in Dubai, and before coming to Dubai I spoke to the bank from my home country to remove police case and allow me to come to Dubai. The outstanding amount was AED 68K. The bank gave me a release letter with the help of Central Bank on the condition that I will continue my loan instalments, but my salary is not that big to be able to continue. So now the bank is telling me they will make a travel ban and civil case against me. My question is if bank files a case and I pay a fine in court against the cheque bounce, will the central bank or local bank still make another case or travel ban? Please help me and give your advice. Thank you

I have a loan which I was able to pay the first few months of being laid off, however, I couldn't afford to until the bank deposited one of the security cheques. I was arrested while exiting the country, and fined where I was handed over my passport. I am back on a visit to look for a job but the bank has threatened to open a civil case, what are my options? Will they take me to jail? Is there a way I can request the court to allow me to pay little instalments until I get a job? Kindly advise

Q: Hi, I have taken a loan from the bank worth AED 450000. I lost my job in 2016 and was unable to pay the instalments, then left Dubai. Bank people never contacted me and I left as I was unable to pay the monthly instalments. Now I am in India. I have got another job in Dubai and I am very keen on joining it. I contacted the bank through email asking their help to sort this, they asked me to call the call centre. When I called the call centre no one was able to help me, they just said "we will get back to you", but no reply yet. For 1 month, they are not able to help me. Now, I have to join my new job in Dubai asap, and unable to understand what to do. I am ready to pay half amount now and remaining half in instalments on monthly basis. But I don't know whom to contact and how to get this sorted. PS: I don't have any friend in Dubai who is ready to help me and go and negotiate with the bank on my behalf. I am just trying to call and sort on my own. Please help and guide me.

Q: I have a Najm credit card, I used to do a minimum payment every month. I am working for a company for the past 2 years. I am not getting salary on time I used to get salary after every 2 or 3 months. I did them a minimum payment but late by arranging for one or another. I came to know that there is a final settlement for the credit card where you can pay a fixed amount every month. I requested them for the past 6 months but they didn't help me. Also, I came to know that they have put my salary of 11500 but I am getting a salary of 5000/-. Every month they are torturing me, for that can you help me with this. They also say they will deposit my security cheque and file a police complaint. This time when I went to meet one of the people for Najm card, I told him about my situation but they are not ready to listen. He gave me two options, either to pay 18500/- in one stroke or 20500/- in 2 instalments

Q: I was a resident of Dubai around 10 years back, and during that time I had some credit card balances which I am paying monthly. Not in every month. I want to settle the debt, but before starting a negotiation with the bank I would like to know if there is a police case against me. Is it a good idea to try and apply for the police good conduct certificate? If there is any case, how will the certificate look like? Will I get the case details on the certificate or no certificate at all? Also, during that time I did not have any Emirates ID. Can I apply even without the Emirates ID?

This Law promulgates the Federal Penal Code (Criminal Law) of the United Arab Emirates. Crimes and chastisement punishments shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of this Law and other penal codes.

The provisions of this law, promulgating UAE Civil Code, govern the civil transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The commercial transactions remain subject to the laws and regulations applicable in their regard.

The provisions of this Decree by Law amend the Federal Law No. (18) of 1993 by replacing Clause (4) of Article (379) as well as Articles (600), (617), (641), (642), (643), (644), and adding new articles numbered (635) Bis, (641) Bis (1), (641) Bis (2), (641) Bis (3), (641) Bis (4), (643) Bis (1), (643) Bis (2), (644) Bis (1) and (644) Bis (2). The Decree-Law also repeals Articles (401), (402) and (403) of the Federal Law No. (3) of 1987.
