Passport confiscation by police for a claim by the employer
My company has filed a Breach of Contract case against me 6 months back. For the same reason, my passport was held at the police station.
The company filed this case as retribution to the case I filed against them, hence it is a weak case and they are not pushing forward with it.
There is no update on the case status from the police and it has been more than 6 months since my passport is held.
What is the timeframe for cases to proceed?
Can the police hold my passport indefinitely?

The reason behind my comment is that the Police department does not hold passports of anyone for a labour conflict which can happen because of the breach of contract mentioned above.
However, they can do this based on a criminal complaint. So, assuming this is the case, I would answer your questions above as follows:
There is no timeframe for the police investigation. You should go and follow up.
No, the police will hold your passport until the investigation is done and then pass it on to the prosecutor if the result of the investigation leads to an accusation.
If not, the passport will be returned and the file will be closed.

The police can hold your passport until this case is closed , whether by the claimant(Your Company) withdrawing it , or by a final court judgement.
In case the criminal case has been registered in Dubai ,you can simply apply online at the Dubai Prosecution’s website requesting the transfer of the file to the court.
once request approved , the police will transfer the file to the pubic prosecution to assign it to the criminal court , so the court can rule.
