Criminal investigation in the UAE for misappropriation of funds
We are 2 Indian citizens - used to work in Afghanistan. We were involved in a misappropriation of funds of our office in Afghanistan.
The company we work for is a joint venture in Kabul with some local partners, but in Dubai, it is a big set up.
We were called to Dubai on a false ground of meeting but it was actually for investigation.
We returned some money to the company but there is still an amount due, which we do not have.
After an investigation by the office people, we were handed over to the police who released us on bail keeping our passports.
Now it's over 2 months since the case is with prosecutor's office and nothing heard yet.

At the outset, I completely understand your situation and thank you for reaching out to me on this.
I understand that there is some investigation going on by Dubai Police for misappropriation done in Afghanistan.
This appears very unlikely as Dubai Police does not have extra-territorial jurisdiction.
However, we need to have a look at the investigation and papers prepared by the Dubai Police.
Thereafter, we can prepare an appropriate defence and retrieve your passports.
