May I ask, did you sign the lease for the dance studio with the landlord?

If you did then you will be legally committed under that contract and can be exposed to bounced cheque cases if those cheques do not clear through the bank when presented.

If you did not sign a lease, you need to approach the landlord and involve him, especially if you are not using the premises.

Clearly the landlord may not wish to release the cheques he has until he is given replacements. If you are unable to resolve amicably between your friend and landlord, please come back to us for next steps.
