What are my options if I got arrested for using an illegal substance?
I got caught using an illegal substance for the first time in Dubai and was detained for a period of 35 days.
I was arrested on 20/10/2022 and got bail on 24/11/2022.
But my case is still pending and under investigation.
How much is the penalty for an Emirati national and how long will it take till I see the public prosecutor again for a conclusion on my case?
P.S. first-time drug user.
Whoever takes in any way, uses personally in other ways than the authorized cases, or takes doses more than what is specified in the prescription shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of not less than three months or a fine of not less than 20,000 dirhams and not more than 100,000 dirhams.
It is preferable to appoint a lawyer to defend you and try to reduce the penalty to the fine only and prove that it was the first time.
