Traveling to GCC countries while there is a criminal case in the UAE
Hello,
I have a criminal case in the UAE on me. It is a defamation case and I have an arrest warrant.
Can I travel to other GCC countries without any problem? Or will my case show in the airport and I will be sent back to the UAE?
Dear questioner,
Thanks for your question!
There are only 2 situations where you can be arrested at any airport in GCC:
1) If there is an Interpol red warrant against you.
2) You take transit through the UAE to travel to another country.
Thanks and Regards,
Dear A.,
Defamation is considered a criminal offence and one that is within the scope for extradition in the UAE. The UAE has extradition treaties with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and so on...
This essentially means that once the UAE is aware that you are in a GCC state, they can request from the government, through diplomatic channels, for your extradition back to the UAE.
If your case is registered with Interpol and there is a red notice then you will be arrested at the airport of whichever state.
That is because a red notice is an international worldwide alert system for the police on wanted persons. It should also be noted that GCC countries have interconnected criminal identification systems in place.
