Q: I got a job offer from one UAE company but I have to pay visa fees as a security which they will return after six months. They will provide me employment offer letter and at the same time I need to pay them visa fees. I am a bit confused that the offer letter is a legally binding document to claim in future if they will not provide me the job. Kindly help me to solve my problem. I am on a visit visa in Dubai.

Q: I and my friend got a job offer from a company when we sent our CVs to it. Without any face-to-face interviews or questionnaires, they offered us the job and good packages. Still, they have not asked for any money for visa processing or anything. We are currently working in the UAE and the new job location is in the Netherlands. Without any interview or interactions, how can we accept the job? How can we check for genuineness?

Q: Hello, I received an offer letter from an LLC company on 29th November 2021 asking me to be there on 30th December 2021. I'm from Cameroon, they asked me to pay for my visa, work permit, and other fees by a specific company only which they will reimburse. No interview was made and the mail doesn't tell me from where they took my CV; it says: The Board of Directors of (Company) accepted and offered you an Offer of Employment to join our Company because your experience and qualifications were found successful and satisfactory. Typically the mode of your selection was based on CV Screening of information on employment datasheet/profile and work experiences once your application is screened and shortlisted (the selection stage may differ from position to position and location of employee). In this case, there is no need for further interviews. Help me with this, please! Thanks!

The UAE has adopted a major reform in its legislative system that brought about 40 new laws and amendments to the company law, criminal law, personal status, among others. The amendments aim to develop the legislative structure in various sectors, the labor law being one of these, was the most recent. We try in this article to shed light on the changes introduced with the new labor law and their significance on both, the employer and employee.

The UAE Penal Code, like all other laws, addresses the crime of fraud in Article 399 of the UAE Federal Penal Code, which stipulates that whoever seizes, for himself or another, a movable property, or obtains a document or signature thereon, cancellation or destruction thereof or amendment thereto by fraudulent means, or by assuming a false name or capacity, where such an act leads to deception of a victim and leads him to surrender shall be punished by imprisonment or fine.

The provisions of this Law, known as "UAE Labour Law", govern the relationship between employers and employees and other labour matters in the United Arab Emirates. There are special labour related regulations applicable in some of the free zones in the UAE.

According to this Decree, tentative approval to admit a foreign worker for the purpose of employment in the UAE cannot be granted until an Employment Offer that conforms with the Standard Employment Contract is duly signed by the employee and presented to the Ministry of Labour.

The provisions of this Decree-Law, known as "New UAE Labor Law", govern labour relations in the private sector of the United Arab Emirates. The New Labor Law repeals the previous UAE Labor Law (Federal Law No. (8) of 1980).
