Can a husband take a house while it is in both names of the couple?

Dear sir/madam,

My wife and I got married in the Netherlands one year ago. Now we live in Dubai and this is also our residence.

Now, I have bought a house and paid 100% myself from my bank account. The house is in both our names.

Suppose we get divorced, can I still keep the house 100% even if it is on our both names?

Dear questioner,

Generally, in the UAE, the property will go to the one whose name it is under.

However, in the case of joint ownership, It is more advisable to segregate your assets that are in joint names before signing the divorce (hypothetically).

It is best to reach a settlement between both parties to clearly define ownership of assets and so on.

Dear questioner,

As long as the wife is a partner in the contract, she has the right to keep her share in the property.
