Asking an employee to pay money to get the cancellation letter
Hello,
My cleaner's (laborer) visa is expiring in Nov 2021. I want to renew my visa with a new company. The old company which had given the visa is charging me 1000 AED for the cancellation letter. Is this legal?
If not, how can I complain and get a cancellation letter at a proper price?
Thank you for any guidance!

Dear questioner,
It is illegal to seek any amount from the employee other than what is stipulated in UAE labor law as a penalty.
I understand that the employer is seeking an amount for visa cancelation which is clearly illegal and the worker may raise this issue in the Ministry of Labor and they will act accordingly to make the employer cancel the worker's work permit.
