Recovering an amount of money lent to an acquaintance without a guarantee

I live in the UAE and have lent a large sum of money to an acquaintance. I did not take any signature on the documents, however, I have in the past sent her a formal email and also have chats asking for the money back.

The person is constantly making excuses and does not seem to have any intention of paying.

What action can I take?

Dear questioner,

Did you take any guarantee for the funds you borrowed? Such as a guarantee cheque, etc?

In regards to the legal actions you can take if there is no such guarantee cheque, if the amount you borrowed is not a big amount, it will not make economical sense for you to open a civil lawsuit against your acquaintance, because this will generate additional expenses for you such as lawyer fee, court fees, translation fee, etc.

However, if you want, we can start by serving that person with a legal notice, requesting him to repay the full amount you borrowed.

If you need my assistance, please feel free to approach me via email.

Best Regards,
