Questions & Answers
Is it legal to work 10 hours a day in the month of Ramadan?
I am working in Ramadan 10 hours, 6 days a week. Is this legal?

Dear Questioner,
You can file a complaint at the MOHRE. Also if you need you can mail to your employer regarding your working hours.
As per the government rules during Ramadan, the working time has been reduced. So if you want to work more hours, then it will be considered overtime.
Please confirm it in the mail.

Dear Questioner,
Please note that the reduction of working hours during the holy month of Ramadan is not standard across the UAE.
Though Article 65 of UAE Labor Law states that two hours shall reduce from the usual working hours for the employees, it does not say Muslim employees or Non-Muslim employees.
However, this applies only to mainland employees only.
Each free zone has its own rules. Free zones like DIFC stipulate that such time reduction applies only to Muslim employees [Article 23 of DIFC Employment Law] whereas ADGM rules state that such reduction of working hours applies only to fasting Muslim employees [Article 18 of ADGM employment regulations].
There are free zones that follow UAE Labor law. JAFZA and DMCC are examples where it clearly states in their employment regulation that working hours during Ramadan are reduced to six hours irrespective of the religion of the employee.
Unfortunately, you have not mentioned where exactly you are working. If you are a mainland employee, please feel free to contact MOHRE and file your complaint.
If you are a free zone employee, check their employment regulations and act accordingly.
Hope my explanation is clear.
Please feel free to write to me if you have any further concerns.
Thank You!
