Divorce and its effect on the status of nationality

Good afternoon

I am Iraqi married to Iranian man for 5 years, and he is a very good man. We don't have kids together and it is not big deal for us.

His family, however, is not happy about this, and they want him to marry another woman.

We are under a lot of pressure, and I am not sure how long he can stand this. I want to know my rights plz in case he remarries or divorces me.

I wouldn't get citizenship because we don't have kids. Can I stay in Iran or I have to leave?

Hello

Remarriage needs court permission and it doesn’t have any effect on your Iranian nationality.

In case of divorce, Iran Civil Code says: "A non-Iranian woman, who acquired Iranian nationality by marriage, can revert to her former nationality after divorce or the death of her husband, provided that she informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

So it is your right to go back to your original nationality; and if you don’t use this right, as you are an Iranian national, this is your country.

I assume all former steps are complete, like registration of your marriage in Ministry of Foreign Affairs and your Iranian ID card.
